Our Story

In 1998 Tom Jr. and Jodie moved to Philadelphia and built a new town home. A custom bar room was created instead of a formal dining room, and flashes of the "Original" bar in 1974 were evident. Hockey and football games entertained neighbors and friends for the next several years.

In 2003 Tom Jr. and Jodie moved to Saratoga Springs New York to be closer to Jodie's family and college friends from Oswego. The basement of their home was gutted in the first few months and Tom Jr. and Sr. began their next project. A sports bar complete with dome hockey, darts, and plasma TV's was the latest in the string of entertaining bar rooms. Again, like the "Original", a fish tank was built flush into the wall by the bar, and now dj equipment was added to supply the soundtrack for parties to come.

In 2006 Tom Sr. and Mary moved to Saratoga to design and build their new home. The lower level would become the model and start for Gurka's Original Bar Rooms. Keeping with the "themed" area idea, the walls outside a home movie theater have posters and marquis showing "Casablanca" and "Gone with the Wind." The penny arcade area has pinball, slots, darts and shuffle bowling, while a plasma touch screen game sits on the bar out in the main area. The bar is done in a deep cherry wood with accent lighting all around and a brass foot rail.

In the last twenty five years, Tom Sr. and Tom Jr. have developed a passion for bar building and entertaining. What started as a hobby has produced years of fun and memories. The main focus of Gurka's Originals is to provide a custom environment to suite each client's personal taste, while giving you a chance to "Come home to the best bar in town."™
